    Default Clean our waterways contest.

There is a new contest up to help clean our waterways. Here is a link to that thread.

    http://www.crappie.com/crappie/conte...arbage-picked/

I had read a post by canebreaker down on the Mississippi board and he had written that he keeps a bucket in his boat to hold the trash he comes across while fishing. I thought this was a great idea and wanted to start doing the same. If you are out fishing, you never have to come home empty handed. As many of as as there are on crappie.com, we should be able to pick up hundreds of lbs of trash in a years time. When you see something floating, just reach out with the net and scoop it up and put it in a bucket for proper disposal. Some peoples net needs to get wet from time to time and this would be a good way to get that done if you don't use it for fish catching purposes

Sooooo, pick up some trash, win some prizes, you'll look good to other fishermen (you know that just because they ain't staring you down, that they still are checking on your fishing), you'll look good to enforcement if checked, and you'll feel good at the end of the day. The environment will thank you as well.

    Thanks for the contest Slab

Good idea. I walked the banks last trip out and was amazed at all the trash in the swamp. I would need a bigger boat.

I watch some older guy get outta his boat and throw a drink bottle down at the public launch in henderson. I said you know if you want to you can pick the bottle up and put it in the trash. He told me a few choice words. Told him to have a lovely day and I would teach my daughter that we have to pick up after trash like him if we want anything nice, As I'm holding my 1 yr old. Needless to say he went and got his trailer gets to his boat throws the bottle in and asked was I happy, I didn't even reply.

Glad you spoke up! Itll never end if nobody says anything. Tired of seeing our unique and beautiful lakes and rivers getting trashed by people too lazy to stick a candy wrapper in their pocket till they get home or put an empty water bottle back in the cooler. It just dont make any sense to me.

It is a shame to see people throw trash everywhere.

I live on the Vermillion river. With heavy rain and when the water level comes up, the trash accumulates on the bridge pilings on the road next to my driveway (half mile from the house luckily). You wouldn't believe what folks pitch without any conscientiousness of what they are doing. I call the Bayou Vermillion River District in Lafayette. They come with their barge and break it up around the pilings and send it all down river. They don't pick it up. Hope someone down river in the next parish does before it enters the gulf. I am afraid unfortunately that probably doesn't happen, don't know.

The junkiest waterway in SW Louisiana for sure. They have trash days on the Lafayette end ever so often, but nothing happens on the lower end that I know off.

I remember one night coming home from playing chess real late in Lafayette and the commercial clean up crews were working around one of the night spots on Johnston. They were blowing all the paper, cans, and bottles into the highway ditch counting on the next rain to send it South.
