    Default Shroomy Weather

The prime deer hunting on my lease is over and the bayou is too muddy to fish so its foraging time. The swamps are full of oyster mushrooms this time of the year. Last Sunday I picked 80lbs, yesterday 10lbs and 40lbs today. If I would of brought my pole saw I would of had over a 100lbs today.Name: 20141221_135739.jpg

I wish I was comfortable identifying them. I love those things. The only ones I collect in Arkansas are Morels in the early spring. I think I know the difference between them and the False Morels. So far so good.
    Tell'em I'll be there.

I can only tell if they are good by taste test. When can I come over.

Love fresh mushrooms. Seen several growing in the woods here, but too uncomfortable as well to identify them properly. Sauté like that on a grilled steak - tough to beat for sure.

Well, have you been rolling in manure? If not, move around more and they won't grow on you. You know I had to Jimmy, can't help myself.

Hey Vet between finishing another semester at school, doves, squirrels, hogs, deer and ducks fishing has been on the back burner. I did de-winterize the boat the other day to start foraging. I have been leaving the poles at home. Trust me it isn't easy hitting the water with out them. Its just the Oyster mushrooms are only here till sometime in February. I can fish all spring and summer. Today I only found 5 lbs. I did see a lot of ones that released their spores. The sun and dryer north wind got the best of them. I cant wait for the weekend. There will be a bunch out after this front. They grow on dead toupelo gum and willow trees. They start off white with a grey tint and turn a shade of orange tint. They have long white gills. They are very tender in texture. If your not sure when you find some send me the coordinates and I will go get them. No seriously if anyone is seeing a bunch on the water I will go meet you and split the take. Trust me its worth my time to travel for them. The biggest factor is dead toupelo and cold damp weather.
