Default 597 CI HD DI and 598 transducers compatible?

I am having issues with my 597 CI HD DI unit and do not have access to another 597 DI unit to check the transducer, but my fishing partner has a 598 CI HD SI that has DI capability...so my question is can I use that transducer on the 598 to check out my 597 to try and see if I have a bad transducer? I cannot find any info about the compatibility of the the two units on the Hummingbird website. I do know that using a transducer that is not DI will fry my 597. Thanks

The HB Si units derive the DI image from data received in the SI Piezoes...there is no "down pointing" DI piezo in the HDSI xducer...

And the 2D piezo is different is the SI and DI xducers...

It is possible to connect the SI xducer to the DI unit and possibly get "some" data displayed...but it wouldnt be correct ...nor very good images....

I would only use this option if the 597ci HD DI were showing completely blank screens...to check if the DI xducer were completely shot...(some returns with the SI xducer could indicate a shot DI xducer)...

David I have a 797 and now a 798. They work on either mount. I can switch them. Put either on either base.

Correct ...the quick mount bases are the same ...

It's the HB SI units and the HB DI units internals (and xducer technologies) that are completely different ...(thus my answer in post #2)...

I updated the 797 to be DI also. I guess mine work because they have Si software. Different on 500 series I reckon. I'm. Lost on all this stuff. Still learning each trip.
I know the difference in the hd on the new one is night and day.

All of the HB SI units received a software update to add DI images ...(somewhere around version 4.750 I think)...

This is different than the HB DI units that have a dedicated "Down pointing" piezo in the xducer to collect DI echo data ...

There are special experimental scenarios where "cross technology" hardware can be intertwined ... but these scenarios are few and specific ...

That is where those crisp screenshots come from. The down shot I have is a combo of both sides of the Si not really true downshot.. is that right?

    Correct on both counts ...

Dedicated DI most always has crisper DI images simply because the piezo is pointing straight down ...

HB SI units render (computer generate) the "side pointing" piezo data into a image that "looks" like DI ...
