Nothin like it used to be. Still a good crappie hatchery. Way more crappie fisherman now than there was 5 or 10 years ago.

    Nice job, scott.

Rend is no different than any other lake in that it goes through cycles of good and bad years. Some years there may be a lot of small fish and not many bigs, others years its the opposite, and some years there will be a lot of bigs and littles. They all go through cycles regardless of the amount of fishing pressure or anglers. IN MY OPINION and my 2 CENTS, I feel if you want to see the lake get rid of all the dinks everyone talks about, then follow the limits the biologists set forth. I know many might not like the limit on rend because its hard to follow or doesnt make sense, but there has been a TON of research put in to set the limits the way they are to try and produce the best fishery possible and those goals can't be achieved if people dont follow the limits and take out those small fish which the limit is clearly trying to accomplish by having 15 under ten or 25 under 10. I know that on shelbyville when they made the 5 under limit, it was because the black crappie in the lake were taking too long to reach maturity and there were too many of them. By setting forth the under limit, it was to target these black crappie and help get the population of them down some so to allow them to reach maturity quicker. Biologists said it would take 4 or 5 years of anglers actually USING the under limit to see if it's working. I fully believe that it has indeed, actually been working for the better. If you'll notice a lot of shelbyville anglers have black crappie in their pics, and those are usually the unders! Again this is just my two cents and you guys can yell at me and tell me im dumb but thats just how I feel about the rend limit. Just try it out because there is a reason its the way it is! Every lake has limits set to best support that fishery system!

Well said birdy! I'm not saying your right or wrong but you have just made the most educated post regarding this topic on Rend. I do agree with you by the way. Not saying I agree 100% with the limit on Rend but I can't argue with the results. I feel that the average size of the overs has increased since the limit was introduced and there are more fish in the 13"-15" range. I'm not saying the lake hasn't had a off year but catching overs hasn't been too much of a problem any day this year in my boat! The way I see it if you don't like all the little fish this year leave them for me and I'll take care of them in 2-3 years when they are all biggens! Like birdy said this is just my $.02 take is or leave it.
