Smile Rooty Tooty jigs on Broadwater

I went out the past weekend and camped on Broadwater for old times sake just to watch a few ducks fly in the evening, cook some bacon over wood coals, fire up the dutch oven and cook some tenderloin on the grill top over coals. I did not get up to shoot a duck and had no intention on doing so...lol

But on the trip out, I came across a couple of fellas in a john boat moving along the creek with a couple of rods sticking up with Rooty Tooty jigs tied on! I wish I could have stopped to talk but was loaded on the way out headed home...

I hope they caught a mess on such a fine day!

I need some more jigs, but cant find the website, anyone know how I can get up with the jig maker?

    Merry Christmas to all!!

Not a finer place to be than Broadwater Swamp, especially on a crisp December morn.

My son was down there from the 14th thru the 18th camping and fishing. He had the limit every day before 11 and 12. I was able to go Tuesday and also had a limit by 11. He said that there were few people fishing but most everyone was doing well with the fish.

I just finished camping / fishing in broadwater (Dec 13-18). Had a Great time, I love camping in broadwater.
It got 27degrees on monday night, (I had to run my old coleman tent heater wide open).
I was able to find the fish / (4 days of fishing) = 80 fish. They hit minnows and jigs.
I never found a lot in one whole but found them scattered around every deep whole / turn.

The long fish in the box is commonly called a jack or jack fish. It is a Chain Pickerel, a smaller cousin of the Northern Pike and Musky. I would love to spend a few days in Broadwater, but I got rid of most of my camping gear. All I have left is a sleeping bag and some Coleman stuff, and the 800 number for Holiday Inn.

Ray if you could see how Steve and I camp, you'd think you were in the Holiday Inn. I haven'y been able to go in two years now, but I'm still holding out to be able to do it again. Last week seems to have been a great week in the swamp fishing. If we don't get a lot of rain, just slow rain, it'll stay good for another couple of weeks. The water temp of the water was 45 degrees and most of the deep holes were holding fish starting at Broadwater Lake and Otter Flats. That jack that Steve was one of the small ones. I've had them that I had to bend around to get them in the ice chest.
