    Default Afternoon Thumpage

I got off work about the time my oldest was getting out of school. We met at home and decided to go on an afternoon hunt as the season is winding down. She hasn't had much time to hunt this year due to school and dance.

We drove down to our family camp and made a short walk out to the "playhouse stand". It's one I built when to hunt with my girls when she was 7 years old and now she is 16. It's a 4x8 stand that is tucked in a pine thicket. We have harvested a many of deer from this stand together.

The clouds were low and the drizzle was thick. We had only about an hour or so of daylight left as we climbed into the stand.

We got comfortable and swatted at some mosquitoes as we enjoyed our time together. There wasn't much wind and no creatures were moving but I kept hope that we would see some deer. Just as shooting light was fading fast I saw movement to our right. A large doe crossed about 20 yards and was heading to our shooting lane. Another doe appeared on the first ones tail. We could catch glimpses of them until the largest doe stepped out broadside and looked back at us. We watched them feed for a minute and I could hear her breath harder with anticipation of the harvest. Both deer were in the open and she let the .243 bark thumping the biggest one in the chest. The woods exploded with deer running everywhere. As one headed for us she reloaded and when it stopped 20 yards away the .243 barked again thumping the second doe good.. We heard her crash as we both were excited. We got down from the stand and went to check for sign. She made perfect shots and the harvest was clean. She located one of them and I located the other one. I snapped some pix and then the work began lol. Thanks for reading. Name: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1418435199.084057.jpg

Good job Dad! Just how many deep freezers do you have at your house. You and the family have put up a ton of meat!
