Thanks Storm Cloud, this is a real handy piece of info to have. Got their web site bookmarked now. Bought a brand new 19 foot lowe this spring, great boat, on a POS trailer. I thought maybe it was just me, but after reading the comments on here, i realize it really is the trailer.

scott i was in the bearing biz for 41 years, retired in 04 and at that time i believe timken was about the last major of the amer mfg's of tapered roller bearings.. having said that some of the major jap mfg's had quality control equal and sometimes better than timken.. i assume timken is still made here.
DEAD AS FRIED CHICKEN
I think timken gave in. I know NAPA dropped them a few years ago and went with skf I have never had a problem with jap bearings

Plus the fact that there is no locking device on the nut......always happens on the drivers side too.....that the side the nut will work loose on if not locked and keyed.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

When the hub came off of the spindle, there was a grease seal, inner bearing, washer, and a plain nut about 1/4 inch thick left on the spindle. The outer bearing was gone and there was no way to lock that nut without a retainer washer where you bend the ears down. There should have been a castle nut and cotter pin.

I lost my bearing buddy a year ago and burnt the bearings on the passenger side. I took the axle to Jackson and they welded a new spindle on that side. That spindle takes a larger nut and washer and has a grease fitting on the end of the spindle. It has no hole for a cotter pin in it. I checked it out a couple of days ago and it had the retainer washer on the inside of the castle nut but the ears hadn't been bent into the castle nut to lock it in place. Jackknifed Trailer Repair needs to change their name to Jacklegged.
