I recently became obsessed with crappie fishing too.

    My go to list...

6' micro light rod, cork grips
1500 or 2000 series reels (spool is about the size of a 50 cent piece)
    1/16 ounce heads, sickel hooks
    6 pound test
Best depth finder you can afford. Down scan changed the game for me.

kalins 2" tripple threats, I use a lot of darker colors, but I've done the wild card thing (picked random jig) and caught many that way too.

to me, unless you have no choice, it's not cost effective to pour your plastic. This us just my thoughts on my fishing needs. $2.50 a pack for tails sounds like a deal to me.

I have a pflueger reel with a 7' bass pro 1 piece rod that can hum a 1/32 jig head like its a 1/2oz sinker... lol. I've bought a few do-it molds (mayfly, 1.5" thumper, 2.5" k-chub) just so I can make my own colors. I do real well with the mayfly in a watermelon blue I make. I find crappie fishing more relaxing for me than bass fishing and don't know why? I did order a 50 pk of 1/16 sickle hook jig heads that I can hopefully try this weekend. I'll try to figure out how to post some pics of a few baits I've made. Thanks for everybody's input.

Welcome! I pour my own heads, mostly 3/32 an I ty my own bucktails. white hair, red thread, no paint! I take a lot of folks crappie fishin, both clients an fishin buddies. A lot have their own favorite plastic tails, but none beat my hair jig near as often as it beats them. Of course some say its the Indian, not the arrow!
