Lake Demopolis
I had a chance to stop monday to fish on Lake Demopolis. I put in about 230 at the Backbone Creek ramp, went to the main river, and found a large slough that had been silted in at the mouth. I dragged my yak a little ways to get back in there, and spooked a good sized doe out of the woods and across the creek, not 30 feet from me. There was a good amount of bait back in there splashing, and a little standing timber. I managed to catch about a half dozen crappie mainly around one tree. I was using a chartreuse and white jig tipped with a minnow. The first fish was the biggest, a big white crappie. It was the biggest crappie i've caught outside of private pond fishing. I caught another good sized black crappie and a few short fish before I paddled back.
I also had a banner weekend at the private pond where I fish in Marengo county. There has been a healthy population of crappie there for a few years, and the fish i caught this trip were bigger and chunkier than any i've ever caught there.
Not a great pic, but this is my haul from fishing in the pond saturday and monday morn, and Demopolis monday afternoon. The 2 I caught on demopolis are on the ruler on top.
Some of the fish from the pond.
The longer fish on the left was from lake demopolis, the thicker one on the right was another big white i caught at the pond. I was proud of these two.
