Default I got a deal on a keel guard for my boat

And will install myself. I have been reading about these & I have read a couple or so folks that also put some of the 3m 5200 marine adhesive along the edge of the keel guard. Has anyone here installed one and if so did u add the 3m product ? It will be awhile before I install, maybe even spring since I read that the surface of the boat needs to be at 70 degrees or above.

    thanks in advance

GDG and myself have helped installed several. Nothing to it. Chose a warm day, clean the surface, scuff it with the included pad. Then start at the highest point, just below the eye bolt and work your way down a few inches at a time. Keep it centered on the keel and use a rubber hammer to "set" it.

I have installed several of these myself on glass and aluminum boats. Just like feeshrman said. A light scuffing and a wipe down with alcohol was all that was needed to get a good bond. Never had an issue that would warrant adding the extra sealant. Really nice addition to your boat.

5200 can take up to a week to cure, the 4200 has a 24 hr cure time, fyi.

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

I have one on this boat I have now and wont have another rig with out one again, with us not having docks on 99 percent the lakes I fish it makes a lot of difference.

Keel Guard recommends a product from West Systems called Six10 to adhere the keel guard to your boat if it comes loose. Should work well for an initial install also.

I've used it, and it does work!!!

Have helped put two on by the book. Both on aluminum boats. They stayed on about a year and a half. Did not put the 5200 on the edges. I would pay double to have one put on the boat I have now if it would stay put.
    Tell'em I'll be there.

Larry, you can watch the installation video from the Keel Guard on You Tube. It's the same video that comes in the package with the guard.

Read my post above about the Six10.

This will be one of my FEW informative posts. Enjoy!!! I got a deal on a keel guard for my boat

I put a keel guard on my aluminum boat this summer....did everything just like the video.....set with rubber hammer and the burnishing tool provided in the kit.....had a good tight fit no kinks or wrinkles....really looked good.....I was proud of myself. Went in the house and drank a couple cups of coffee and went back outside and the Keel Guard was laying in the driveway.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.
