Fish were down in the brush and couldn't get most of my bites out of there.
Headed home Sunday Morning and five mile from home I's smells oil burning.
Look at the passenger mirror and sees a puff of white smoke.
    Whiles I'm a lookin' POOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOF.
I looked like Nascar leaving a trail with a blown engine.
Low pressure light blips on and I pull over.
    Buddy picked up my boat.
Call the wrecker and get it towed to the lower drive.
Let it sit 'til Monday. Spent Sunday afternoon cruzin' the adds for a new rig.
Decide to take a look at it Monday and found this.

Sounds like my luck. My plans to fish this weekend got put to a sudden halt on Thursday when my truck went on the blink on the way to the office. Started hearing a loud grinding type noise (insert your best sound effect here) and long story short it is a cam phaser and broken cam chain that likely caused quite a bit of damage. I am no motorhead by any stretch but I knew that sound was not a good one when it happened. Also found out in this process that one of the worst motors to have is the 5.4 Ford put in the 04-07 models....I'll give ya 3 guesses what I have and the first two guesses don't count!! No one in my town would even touch it but luckily another C.C member put me onto someone that is familiar with this issue and might be able to start in next week!!! Haven't met hardly anyone in person from this site but have been helped out more times than not and gotten advice from some really great people!!

    Road trash?

My son had a deer knock his filter enough to make it leak. Didn't realize what had happened until it was to late.

Looks like a cheap filter made in china. Hope it didn't do any other damage.

Dang man if it wasn't for bad luck. But hopefully the shutting off of the engine early saved more problems. Alittle bit of oil makes for a lot of smoke tho.

You need to have them install a Phaser delete kit on it and a tuner update then you wont ever have that problem again. Those 5.4 fords are a nightmare for sure but by doing that it will make it a lot more trouble free.
There will be days when the fishing is better than one's most optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home.

Wow I've never had that happen. Sounds like you got it shut down before any damage occurred. Do you think it was a rock or was somebody messing with your truck?

    Definately not vandalism.
I was listening to Extreme on the CD Player real loud so I didn't hear the impact if I even could hear anything if the radio was off.
I did have the vehicle worked on a couple days prior to the trip. Had the timing belt and water pump replaced and a couple engine mounts replaced as well.
I did notice that one of the plastic panels is missing a bolt. It's in front of the filter so I assume it was flapping around under there and left the filter exposed to where a rock could hit it. Towing is paid for by insurance so only $18 in oil and filter. I'm pleased as punch.
