Default Charles is an Official Member of the Jordan Lake Slab Club

Charles, known as Hunter on here, today became an official member of the Jordan Lake Slab Club. I had the privilege of being on his boat today when he caught the 14" crappie in the pictures below. It has been several years in the making, but finally his dream has come true.

I first met Charles three years ago when we had a Fall Crappie.com cookout on Jordan. It was the year of the big crappie kill-off and we were catching crappie in the rip-rap at Farrington and the 64 Causeway. I had posted that if anyone needed a seat on the boat, I had one available. Charles emailed me that he needed a ride and I told him to come along.

Charles has a most interesting story and I thought I would share it with you. While we were fishing that day, he told me how he ended up in NC. Both he and his wife have been military and lived all over the world. About five years ago, they started talking about retirement. One day Charles told his wife he wanted to retire to Jordan Lake, NC.

As a former bass tournament fisherman, he was tired of that life and had taken up crappie fishing while they lived in Maryland. Problem was, there are not many slabs to be caught in his state. Charles started reading Crappie.com and ended up reading the NC chapter. After reading about all the crappie and slabs being caught on Jordan Lake, he decided this was where he would like to live after retirement and told his wife.

They could have lived any place in the world, but they chose NC. They rented an apartment for a couple of years while they found a place to build a house. Just over a month ago, they moved into a beautiful house near Jordan. As the crow flies, it is barely a mile from Farrington.

It took five years for his dream to come true, but now he has caught an official Jordan slab. I'm sure it is the first of many more to come. If you see a silver Tracker Targa zipping around Jordan, it will be Charles. I have appreciated very much him allowing me to fish with him and today was especially gratifying as I netted his big one.
