Ed, go ahead and start boat shopping... Hehehe, I ain't got a clue what it would cost to replace the transom on a bass boat but I bet it won't be cheap!

You got a stratos right? Take your motor off and get you a big aluminum boat

Talked to a guy a while back (~18' Stratos) that had his done by a reputable shop. They did a nice job but 3500 sounded a bit high to me. I've replaced a couple in aluminum boats and although time consuming, not an overly difficult process. The first one we used laminated cypress and it should last forever. The second one was a lot easier, we used Arjay pourable ceramic. Really the way to go. its stronger and lighter than wood, waterproof and rot proof. I know another guy that did his with seacast and claims it only took 2 evenings. Took him 2 more months to finish the paint but a little primer is OK for a fishing boat.

You can tell by looking at it but pushing down on the motor while prop is tilted up, you can see the jackplate pushing the transom in some at the bottom. There are stress cracks there now too that used to not be there in the gel coat.
