Default Saturday night trip planned, Guntersville.

Minnows seem to be the bait right now, over jigs. What kind of depth do you all think I need to be looking for since we have hit a good cool down? Hope to find submerged structure, or hold up near some causeway bridges and drop the 10oc green light off the boat just after dark and see what happens. Hope to have enough for a Sunday supper....for two. Ha!

5 ft depth is where Ive caught them the last two weekends. if you see crappie chasing bait near the surface after dark, 3 ft is a better depth. they will also hit jigs. a slider grub is a good choice in the dark due to the thump of its paddle tail.

The light is going to bring an explosion of shad and stripe. You really need to be where they are, and of course they are migrating right now, and only use the light as a last means at this point of the season because it is going to attract a multitude of garbage fish. Lots of fun, but no crappie to speak of, really not even in the shadows with the light. At least that's been my experience here recently and historically over the years during the initial cooldown where the surface water temp is still relatively high in reference to the actual strike zone where they are in abundance and the trash fish sort of go away for the most part.
