I just bought a 15.5ft.canoe and plan on putting a trolling motor on it, I know I have to get it registered. But I bought it used off CL, so there is no paperwork. Can I get it licenced with just the vin number?

You can also get a bill of sale from the seller and take it to the clerks office and use the vin no. to get it registered, at least you can here in Tn.
I will be watching this thread closely as I have a 2nd hand canoe I would l like to use with a TM. I am under the impression I need either a previous registration or a certificate of orgin from the manufacturer.

Licensed a previously non-licensed boat (2 man pond prowler). Used the VIN # and also had a typed/signed note (bill of sale) from previous owner. Suggest checking with the County Court Clerk in county where you live, Clerk here was great help. But then he's a crappie fisherman........
