    Cool Redeemed on Ivan Lake

Yesterday evening my son and I decided to try Ivan Lake before the cold front arrived. Naturally I was after crappie, but Chris was casting for sewer trout. After watching me pull in four crappie in rapid succession he picked up a jig pole for the first time in his life. With the gray ghost jig and red crappie nibbles Chris was soon on the fish. In about a half hour we had nineteen, and the distant lightning was telling us it was time to go.

With his newly acquired taste of jig fishing Chris said he felt like a kid who was tasting candy for the first time. He's hooked!

I can relate to that. I traded in my bass rods for jig poles about 15yrs ago and I still get that rush every time I set the hook.

We were fishing willow tops in about seven feet of water. Fish were at about five feet. Their size was not too impressive, but not dinks either.

It is for sure! I bet by the end of the week he'll have his own jig poles and about a year's supply of crappie nibbles.
