When it gets cold.....slip a garbage bag over it and tie it off then cut the limb. Then get rid of it.

If you want to save the nest for a decoration..spray a can of raid in the bag and tie it shut good. Then after a few days remove the bag and take the nest out and spray a couple coats of clear poly urethane on it. I did that and nest has been hanging in my shop for twenty years now and still looks good.

They won't be gone away Vonna they will just go dormant in the hive! If it freezes in your area like others have said slip a garbage bag around it after making sure there is no activity around it. Seal it up tight, find the hole in the bottom of it through the bag and empty a can of hornet killer into it. Once you are sure all the hornets are dead, open it up and shellac it, they sell for a pretty penny sometimes for decor for cabins and lodges.

Ha Ha very funny! I'll have you know I saw it first. Good thing too, cause it's about head height for him. I don't know how long it takes them to build a nest because we were both out in the yard over the weekend and never noticed it.
When I was a little kid, my Dad got stung by a hornet at my grandpa's well house. It got him on the left side of his chest and he said it knocked him to his knees. I remember seeing the sting afterward and it wasn't pretty.

Happened to me on a golf course. Wasn't sure if I was gonna live. Felt like the wind was knocked out of me for about 15 minutes. Gasping for breath. No one around to help. Very scary. Finally made it in and called doctor. He nonchalantly said "sounds like you had a reaction". No joke.
