I have tied flies using a stinger hook. Not for trout, but for bass. Have tried it on smaller flies for bream/gills and crappie, but couldn't get the fly past the gills to reach the
crappies. Tied on zonkers and wolly-buggers.

Where the second hook is located in the marabou it will not have much material at all when wet, wet it and you will see what I mean. May want to try a different tail material like bucktail or a zonker. You can also shorten the marabou if you are having a lot of short strikes?

I don't really ever have a problem with short strikes from crappie, they have a big old mouth and usually take the bait in their mouth. I do experience short strikes for bream, but crappie I don't see it as a need and I tie long tails according to the guys that like short tails for the same reason you are trying to add the stinger hook. I personally don't think either is necessary and I feel longer tails just have more action!
I agree Skip I like the long tails too. I think its just another reason to tie more jigs . I'm sick and I need help![]()

Your idea is a real good one.
Any decent single pole jig fisherman can recognize when sacs are Gumming a lure. They aren't all just aggressive feeding at all times. Regardless of how big their mouths can open.
Sometimes you'll see your line just "tic" sideways for a half a second. That's not always a bream, goggle eye or minner. Many times it's nothing more than a huge sac taste budding.
Seen the videos of them inhaling? How wide do you think their mouths are open?
Regardless, it can't hurt if you're trolling it or bumping them on the nose.
Great idea TGE.
