Did you see any topwater action on the wipers in the early morning. I love it when they are busting shad on top, I just to learn how to catch them when they are on top.

Hit Pomona hard today. 7 am till 2. Pulling 9, 4 planed, 2 dipsies 12 to 17, 2 down at 12 to 14, 1 back. Serious fishing. Bite was pretty good on the island till around 9. Mostly on white bandits and bombers. Blue and silver traps working also. Fish got tough after 9. 14 to 19 south of the park ramp had small pods. Lots in deep water fish mid day didn't want to bite. 81' water. Pretty hot out there.

My #1 top water lure is,,,,,Heddon, Tiny Torpedo, clear. On a 7ft med/heavy spinning rod, Pflueger President 6730 reel, with Power Pro 8/30 line. Don't know why clear
works so well. Don't cast into them
without a strong grip on the rod. Slow retrieve just enough to make the prop churn. <*)}}}><

never used clear but used them a lot back in the day
Used them also, but they were perch designed. Now will spend more money.

Gotts admit you folks with them fancy new locators make me jealous with your screen shots!![]()
Gosh darn them sonar shots are great. Sure didn't see any pods that big Sunday. Saw no whites or wipers surfacing that day. Had a target spot and went straight to it then hit secondary spots, then prospected based on previous years spots. Struggled bad, but stuck to the preconceived fish plan. Hindsight other then go where I could find screens like that, would do the same thing. Caught a number of catfish trolling at 3.1 which usually means too slow to me, but 3.5 _3.9 didn't change anything but stop the cat bite.
Top water bite for Wipers and Stripes in the Midwest for me is hands down Zara Spook. Big fish bait. On lakes like Beaver and sometimes Wilson, and even Milford, and these days Clinton even, you know about when and where they'll be on the top, I have been known to hover and wait for it. But usually not the only part or a very long part of my fishing plan for a day. Did see one day earlier at Pomona this year where the top water bite started around 7am and was still there and visible at 2 when we left. Every bait in the boat worked that day. Just where and how we wanted to catch um next, it was a fun day. But Beaver and Milford are really my only lakes where I'll actually wait the the top water action. A 3 foot plus Striper hitting a Zara on the surface been my favorite fishing high for bout 20 years now. Like 1000 snow geese low over the decoys, still is, haven't found anything better.
When ya set that hook and fish makes a run and breaks the rod off above the handle, or your son looks at ya ya and says Dad there's smoke coming out of the reel, when ya get the one in the net, that other stuff just don't seem to matter. When ya start fishing real close to cover and the bottom, trying to get that bite, and ya know you've left a couple hundred in lures in the water behind ya already, and you got no 26's or above in the boat, it just sucks. Sunday sucked.
