I only use artificial baits I use what is called a hogie shad you can get them at Academy best color is pepper shad with a green tail but a popping cork and a live shrimp or small croaker, mud minners work really good if your after the big specks and reds I would go with croaker

Size: 49.1 KB caught it on a spinner. the gulp shrimp seem to work well on the specks, once you locate a school of them it's fast and furious.

Live shrimp works, so do croakers, dead shrimp will work too. Caught some small trout last weekend off the jetty in sw LA. I'll be going end of sept. They're a blast on a med/light spinning rod!
