Those 12v set ups work quite well up to around 14 -16' depending if boat is alumn or
fibreglass (alum. being lighter could be 16' easy to handle)
Mike Benjamin has 12 volt on his Ranger 16' -fibreblass and had to go to 24v to be
more efficient .
I run 24v on 18.5' procraft with no problems what-so-ever. can run efficent
constantly approx. 7 1/2 hrs depending on wind condidions ( moderate) long-lining
at 1.0 - 1.3 mph........ Spider riggin, holding against current and wind around bush
piles still works good in 7 hr plus range.
(Minn-kota 60" shaft Trenova 24 volt, 85 lb thrust I-pilot) - Really like this unit
compared to Motor Guide 75 lb remote that was on it - like night / day difference.
fishin813, I have a 18 1/2 ft Tracker Targa with a minnkota I pilot 55lb. I can troll that 7hrs with no problem. If there is a lot of wind I can get 5hrs but then I just turn the switch to the 2nd battery. A lot of times I will prefish for 7 to 8hrs and the next day still run a couple more before switching.
Russ, i think those minn-kota whether it be 12 or 24v are pretty darn good..............
i really like mine. Changed my outlook on fishing - able to spend more time fishing
instead boat control with the Motor Guide (it was a bear at times)
Glad to know you have alum Tracker 17.5 and it works quite well for you.
Mike Connor out of Crescent also has 17.5 and he said he 12v- handles things
quite fine...........
Dave, can't answer if someone bought motor - no one that i know said the got it.
Yea, The I pilot is the best thing that was ever been invented for a boat. It's even better then a GPS because you can always land mark a spot. Have you come out with next years FCC schedule yet. I have the tracker targa 18 which is actually 18.5. It's a 2002 and have had since new. Would not trade it for any other boat. The only draw back is the big windsheild in the wind but that's what chains are for. That windsheild in the winter is worth it.
