Fishing and boating opportunities are about to be improved for those who use the West Sandy public access area.
A groundbreaking for a new boat ramp, fishing pier and paved parking lot took place Thursday afternoon with officials from both the Tennessee Valley Authority and Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency speaking.
The upgrade is planned for the public fishing pier and boat ramp located near the Springville pump house on Graceland Road.

Best of all, the new area will have a paved parking lot and sloped pathways, giving people with handicaps access to the pier.

Evan Crews, senior manager of natural resources at Tennessee Valley Authority, said he expects the work to be completed quickly, with the area ready for use by the first of October.
