Default GDG and I went for a ride today

Ended up at Sciples Mill. One of the oldest grist mills in the country. Located in the backwoods of Kemper County. "Rees Guides stomping grounds". Name: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1407624331.544608.jpg

That all looks good. MY MIL (rest in peace) made really good fried corn bread cakes. I never could get them to turn out right, until she told me to use "water ground" corn meal. Don't know why, but that made a difference. Grits, corn meal, and breading, wow, well worth the trip.

LOL I just remembered Jerry Clower from Yazoo City, Ms. saying " a grist mill is where they grind grits for those of you who ain't cultured enough to know what a grist mill is". Love Jerry Clower.

If this place could talk it would be some tails to hear!! A lot of spring fed creeks in that part of the county and there were several mills in that area in the 40s and 50s. Unfortunately I am not old enuff to remember them. Know there was one over by Thomas' Pond down stream from they levy. That was a happening place when I was a young en, learned to swim there. They had a raft tied of out in the pond and folks came from all over to swim in the spring water, think they charged us a nickel to swim.
