I thought there might be a short cut from looking at Google Earth, but don't really have a clue exactly where that would be.

Search for refuge and streeters maps they have them named. I can't do it in my boat but I know guys who do it in tunnel hull boats.

You are fortunate to have those memories. My dad died of a heart attack when he was 41 and I was almost 8. We were fishing off the bank at Big Ridge State Park near Knoxville, TN when the attack came. His last words to me were "go get mamma". She passed at 97 on July 19, 2014. She confided in me a few years ago that daddy told her that "Johnny will never make a fisherman". I think he was wrong. Since her funeral I have spent a lot of time down memory lane.

It may be possible to launch a yak at the public fishing area in the refuge at the end of Streeter's road. It would save you some paddling over open water. That project you saw on google is some sort of industrial facility that was built. The area I am talking about is just past that.

A couple of years ago I drove down there thinking like you, but it would be tough to get into the water. I don't remember exactly why, but it seems it was steep and maybe rocky. I keep hoping the refuge will provide some kind of paddler access over there as the sport is gaining rapidly in popularity and it's eco friendly.

Yes that fishing area is bulk headed. Mermentau sorry for your loss. I was lucky to have the years of enjoyment. I am from the country and have and had young parents.

Hit the Bayou again today for 3 fish and an escapee. Everything pretty much like the last time except I paddled 4 miles less and it was much hotter.
