Well it's the time of year when it's almost too hot to fish, but with a free afternoon yesterday I just had to try my luck. Lucky for me, the wind was howling. As aggravating as it was to hold the boat in place, it made the temperatures bearable. I didn't even break a sweat. I started fishing at 6 PM and fished till dusk. The first few spots I hit produced a few fish right off the bat. The later in the evening it got the fishing slowed down. I feel like this was due more to the locations I was fishing and less about the time of day.
I fished stickups and woody cover with the jig pole the entire trip. The depth of water I fished was anywhere from 5-12 FOW. Biggest fish came from two logs in 5 FOW. Did not get a water temperature reading but this weekend it was upper 80s. It's always surprising to me how shallow I find fish in the heat of the summer. Best color was a solid yellow fish stalker jig with a black flake paired with a 1/32nd oz jig. All in all it was a great afternoon trip with a total of 10 fish being boated. All were released to swim another day.

Glad you was able to get on a few CB, most folks miss out on the shallow bite thinking all the fish move to the main lake, deep water structure. The fact is crappie are shallow water river fish that have adapted to the reservoir life style. Fishing shallow structure near the river will always produce some fish. Wood is great, grass is better, a combination is ideal. Also, I found if you take pics with your smart phone while holding it on its side in lieu of on end allows the pics come out right most of the time.
