    Default Minnesota Gewber report

Slab was kind enough to get a sample of the bait to me...I was a little late in seeing the post offering the trial package yet he got one to me. We worked our antique shop yesterday and that gave me a chance to dunk some of this bait along the shores of our super swollen Mississippi River....swollen as in full flood stage. When I ran to do the banking I stopped on the way back to the shop and fished a couple slack water areas out of heavy current. My approach was a jig/plastic combo and to this I added 1/2 of a disk of the bait and hung it under a small float. I caught sunfish using the bait almost immediately and as soon as I removed the float and did the cast retrieve thing I found a crappie or two that wanted to play too. To keep things on the up and up, I removed the scent disc and went back to fishing in the same two fashions using the same color of plastic. I caught fish but it seemed to me that the fish were a little more committed to the hit...no pecking with the bait dics on the hook. Just before I left to go back to work I removed the jig and tied on a plain hook and cast it our under the float a few times. Of course I saw no hits. I added a half of a disc of the Gewber pellet and was rewarded instantly with a bump. Next cast was fish on.

As mentioned, I thought the fish were a bit more into the hits while using the product and I think the Gewber pellets worked great given the fact that I was fishing flood conditions. I'm going to hit a local panfish reservoir this week one day and plan to give them a go in that venue too.

Thank you very much for your feedback. What you experienced is exactly what I've been seeing as well. With Gewbers, they hit it a little harder, and hang on to it a little longer. I think it just gives them a little scented soft something that does not taste like plastic to hang on to, and not immediately spit out. Gives you a better chance to hook'em. Thanks again for sharing.

    Just a little update here.

I intentionally held back about 1/2 of the sample package to try in cold water. I've been fishing some docks on the big river of late with water temps ranging from about 50 down to 42 degrees. I'm not seeing the sort of bite I saw in the warmer water but I can still grab a fish or two using this. I have sort of formed a small ball of it on a plain jighead, not plastic or hair, as a test and the fish have hit the head using just the scented product, just not near as vigorously as they had in warm water. Cold water is a challenge for any solo scented product and I don't think thatcold water should be used to measure the effectiveness for warmer water.
