A little more info would be helpful. Initially, I would think link connection to motor is wrong or link is wrong for the motor.
Here are a couple links that may get you going

Swapped motors on my 16' Lowe and now my motor will not steer as far to the right as it used to. This is a rotary gear box, how do I adjust the steering. Thanks...Flintcreek

Pictures would help also. Did you change brands of motors?
The drag link might be the wrong length.

Took a 40 hp Evinrude of a Bass America Stick steer and am putting it on my Lowe which had a 35 hp Evinrude on it...the only difference I can see is the stick steer and the steering wheel. The stick steer hooked in on the right side of the motor and the steering wheel hooked in on the right side of the motor. So I did switch the threaded pipe piece the cables connect on to match the 35 that came off the boat. I will try to get pictures up shortly. Thanks for the replies.
BuckeyeKdog, thanks for the link. My linkage is adjustable but will not shorten up enough for me to center. I may have to try to find a link that is more adjustable. Thanks.
Well I got lucky today....remembered my Dad had an old Mercury in the shop thought it might have the correct steering drag link. Well it had the same as my 35 hp. had on it. On my way back from Dad's I just happened to remember that I had pulled a steering set up off a 14' flatbottom and still had it. After about 2 minutes digging in my shop I turned up with a steering link that after chasing the thread and cleaning it up it was exactly what I needed. 1" shorter than the 2 others I had. Now when my new shorter shift cables come in tomorrow I can finish this motor swap up on the boat I want to fish out of anyway.......hopefully I can get the other one finished in the next couple of weeks.
Glad you got it resolved.
