    Default Image interpretation

I'm new to DS sonar and love the detail, but sometimes have trouble figuring out what I'm looking at. Yesterday I got into an area that had a lot of these swooping shapes like you see on the right of the screen. Are these fish that are changing depth?

octopus hatch perhaps. Probably fish changing depths but as you pass over a suspended fish hthe distance from the transducer will change. when he is right under it he will appear shallower than when he first enters the cone. might be the explanation too.
Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.

CHaz these are shots from the E-4 I had. With a steady boat speed and straight line the images are going to show fish as dots and good structure. Slow boat speed or setting still will give elongated returns as you have. You have a slice of sonar that goes out but once you know where that beam is it can be used to watch you jig and the fish. Like he said your returns are moving in and out of the beam.
