Default OK, I have a question for all you I-Pilot owners

I just bought one for my 55lb pd v2 and coincidentally, I am posting the Co-Pilot after I get this typed. My question is....can you run and log a route without deploying the motor? In other words can I leave the motor in the stowed position, start a route, run it with the big motor, save it then go back and run it with the trolling motor? This could be a bit time saver if you didn't find fish then you could erase it and start another, if you did find fish then you could start at the end or the beginning of the saved route. What say you gentlemen?

I saw something when I Googled your question and to my amazement a couple of post says you can including threads from CDC. This is what one said. But I haven't tried this. I guess you can try it and see. Good Luck!

    1) Leave the trolling motor in stowed position.

    2) Set the motor speed to 0, and turn the prop on. The prop won’t spin with a speed of 0.

    3) Set the iPilot to record a track.

    4) Fire up your outboard and go!

I recorded a track of approximately 1 mile in length running between 6 and 8 mph. My Minn Kota V2 will pull my boat at 3 mph without wind. In recording using your outboard, you can run at least twice that speed.

Playback worked just as well as recording while running off the trolling motor. What I’ve found is that it is a bit of a pain to try to fish while recording a track, because if you have to stop because you get a fish on the line, then you effectively end your recorded track.

Thanks for the info Bigdawgg. I never tired it in the stowed position but I did raise the shaft all the way up using the lock collar and recorded a track with the tm deployed (it was out of the water but in the upright position). Good to know...

Thanks for the reply BigDawgg I kind of figured that it would have to work unless there is some sort of reduced reception by the I-Pilot GPS unit while stowed. Let us begin to experiment and save our trolling motor batteries!

I have recorded by just turning on the unit with the power to the motor off. Works good.

Guys I am a bit confused. When I stow my I-Pilot it turns off automatically, both the motor and the remote. I had figured you could raise the motor out of the water and lock it in place but still upright and set the speed to zero and record, but I can't see how you do it with the motor stored. Does yours not cut off when you stow it. Mine does and cuts off the remote as well.

If you push the handle down and put a weight on it you can do it with the Terrova also. Note: make sure the collar is down or it will deploy.
