    Default Trolling motor recommendations

Hey all. As a lot of you know I got my first boat a couple weeks ago. It came with a minn kota 50# max drive. I think I'd like to get a more powerful one 65-75, because into the wind it reall struggled. My boat is a fiberglass 16 ft winner.

I'd like to have the remote and the ability to use the anchor feature I've heard about on a lot of the trolling motors. I see that the ipilot would be a nice feature to have but I would have to upgrade my fish finder also to use this (have a humminbird 587 ci hd di).

Some have built in sonar what does this mean?

Also open to a used one in good condition if anyone has something like what I'm looking for.

Minn Kota Terrova IPilot. If you have room for two deep cycle batteries, go with an 80 pound thrust. Drive it from any where in the boat. Has spot lock, cruise control, track recording and all the bells and whistles . It's perfect for trolling.

It's a little tougher to dip trees with than a traditional foot pedal, but definitely do able with practice

You wouldn't need to upgrade your electronics if you buy the i Pilot, in fact the Terrova has a groove that just fits a H'bird cable but not a Lowrance cable (go figure). Your 587 will work fine on this unit. There is a built-in transducer in some, but the only modification you would need would be an adapter to match the universal sonar to whatever sonar you plug into it. The drawback to using this is that it is basically just 2D sonar, so you wouldn't have the DI feature from your H'bird.

Vic - you are correct. I should have explained better. I was referring to the TM and nav syncing to use the copilot (I believe that's what it is anyways) feature that will have it troll a route you program it for. I would have to upgrade my bow FF anyways because it's a really old humminbird panoramic view. At least I think I would. I kind of want a newer/better one anyways though.

I think any i Pilot will record and retrace a route, regardless of ff, but it may be something in the newer models that uses a synch for a better way to do it. With the model i Pilot I have, you just hit "record" at the start of your run and then stop it at the end. Then the trolling motor will retrace the route from either end, and match the speed as well.
