This past Saturday we had the South Carolina Crappie Association Kids Tournament on Lake Murray. There was a great turnout and 12 boats competed. The weather was nice and nearly every boat caught fish! A great time was had by all!
The best sacks were caught from fishing brush, but my boat went dock fishing. Me and my brother in law had his 2 boys with us and boy did we have our hands full. Them two boys are fishing fools! Every time one of us would hook a fish we let the boys wind it in and it was a competition between them as to who could get the rod in hand the quickest! We lost fish and broke fish off, but those boys had a lot of fun. We didn't win and we didn't even finish in the top half of the field but it didn't matter. I feel confident we created a lifelong memory Saturday.
Tournament hours were 7-11 and I had my fingers crossed my brush piles would be hot but they weren't. We couldn't find fish on brush and the dock bite has been better later in the day. We pounded the docks that have been producing and despite the overcast conditions we were able to pull a few fish off them. We wound up with 13 crappie, 3 bream, and 2 bass. Our biggest crappie was 1.33 lb I think and our top ten weighed 7.64 lb. The winners had 13.89 lb I believe. But all the kids were made winners and were given trophies and a new fishing rod!

Kids tournaments are always a good time, it is apparent looking at the kids faces that these young ones enjoyed themselves as well. Congrats to all participants and their chaperones.
