Thread: Leaky Boat

Sometimes when a big motor is running fast and is not trimmed properly, it can cause water to get deflected back into the boat. This happens on one of our big work boats. It makes me think the motor was not mounted properly to the kick plate.

Worst case scenario would be a crack in the transom that the torque of the big motor opens up.

How big of an Xpress? If no water when trolling, but only when you run big motor, are you the only one in front of boat? Causing the rear of the boat to rise up a little bit? Crack might be in back of boat and not in water when trolling.

When you come off plane, are you shutting her down instantly, or are you slowly coming off plane? I know on my Xpress 15DB if you just shut her down, the water can come over the transom. Also, is there something hanging off the back of the boat? I was hauling some bamboo out to the lake, and the spray was hitting the boo, and comeing back in.

Like RCC said, might be a crack in the transom weld that the torque is causing to open up.

I had a waterfowler 15, and when I mounted a transducer to the rear for my fish graph, it caused water to spray back into my boat.

If you do have a crack in the boat, it has a lifetime warranty so all you have to do is take it to the Xpress plant and they will fix it, as long as it's a manufacturing defect apposed to slamming a stump etc. If the boat doesn't leak when trolling then I doubt the leak will show up if you fill the boat with water. Water in the boat doesn't cause enough pressure to reveal a small leak. That's why it doesn't show up when you troll. You could have a hairline fracture in the center keel weld or a transom weld that when running the engine causes enough pressure to allow the water to come in. Also check the bow eye to see if it's worked loose.
