Redge, I forgot to mention. I found males in really dark black color at Kaw in deep clear water in the tops of trees. Maybe EB was right about them spawning in the tops of trees!

Fishers I have been fishing clear water lakes for 35yrs and yes they do spawn in tops of trees that are in the right depth. Rule of thumb is take a white coffee cup tie a string on it and drop it overboard. Measure the string when you last see it and then add 3' to 4' and you're at the right depth. Water Temp + Depth + Structure = Spawning and that includes tree tops and wood piles. I told EB that a few years ago and he wasn't totally sold on the concept never fishing the super Vis lakes. Now he is lol........Ranger

It seemed weird to me Mark. I was fishing along an edge that had standing timber in Kaw lake closer toward the dam where it is much clearer. I started backing off the bank into deeper water because I wasn't getting anything on the shore. I guess I hit a tree at the right depth. I pulled 4 or 5 dark males and 4 or 5 females with eggs off one tree. All were between 6 and 10 feet deep right in the branches. No other fish nearby that I could find. I am going to have keep an eye out for that pattern from now on.
