Found myself with an open day Friday, and I havn't been to the mid-lake area of Beaver yet this year, so, cloudy morning, lets go. 5:15 AM. NO BOAT TRAFFIC! Thats good. Pull into one of my favorite mid lake holes, crack of dawn, nuthin. hummmmmm.
Water looks pretty clear, time to downsize? Yep, get down to 1.5 inch curl tail minnow, and get bit. good-un too. catch some shorts, few more keepers, then nothing. relocate nearby... nothing.....KERSPLASH- KERSPLASH... OMG Astroid strike??? nope.. STRIPERS. crud. AHHHH... striper fisherman.... drifts thru and catches a couple... stripers leave, crappie start to bite again! Catch more shorts, few more keepers, SPLASH... KEEERRRRRR SPLASH... OMG... someone dropped a Volkswagen in the lake! Nope... Stripers are back! Boat drifts back thru, catches a couple more... said he's caught 7 so far... he looks exhausted but happy. Strpers leave, Crappie bite again, catch a few more good-uns, then the sun comes up... wow! I can see bottom 10 feet deep! Better count fish.... 11. Limit is 15, this shouldn't be an issue! yea, right. 8:00am 11 fish. 9:00am, 11 fish. little cloud passes over, drizzel rain, catch 3 more, 14 now, suns back out...nuthin. relocate. relocate again.... hummmm bass are chasing fry...pink minnow on 4lb test, heck why not. catch 20 Kentuckies (ozark bream) in 30 minutes, plus this guy (yep, thats a male).
Time to relocate again. better recount fish.... yep, just 14. heck, it's 10:00am, this ain't no thing. Yea, right. Major relocate at noon. Better re-count fish. yep. 14. More KY's. man, they are fun! Re-locate again. Crappie should be on docks? 40 docks later, nope, they are not on docks. Re-locate. better re-count... after all, they are spawning, right? still just 14.
2:00 pm. Finally, no. 15! boy, was he all dressed up for me too!
Whew! wait, is that thunder in the distance! hey, rain will turn these fish on! Nope, Cigar boats, 3-abreast. Relocate back to were i started. hummm, don't remember there being a hornet nest around here. lots of buzzing, i don't see the nest... wait, oh, there they are... 6 jet ski's. i think one of them must be doing 80mph. I'm outta here. It's their lake now.
Sometimes, what looks like a great, easy day in a picture, took a lot more work that you think!
