    Default Blackberries are in!

Terrific crop this year. Don't know if it's from the harsh winter or not, but there are plenty that's for sure. It's such a short harvest season with them, so have to stay after them. Round one:

We lay them out on a cookie sheet to freeze, then bag them up because they are so delicate. This year I could easily put away several pounds. Blackberry cobbler is in my near future. Life is good.

Gee those are nice. Are they wild blackberries? I went looking for some wild one twice and only found small sour berries. We use to pick them by the bucket full. I don't know where they all went. I guess I'll have to wait on my thornless ones which shouldn't be too long, but it will be a small crop as it's their first year.

Gene, these are super sweet - although they are of the thorned variety. I have three or four plants that are thorn less, but they are real "viney" if you know what I mean. These berries are nearly the size of quarters (with lots of thorns):

Packed up the second gallon bag after freezing on the cookie sheet:

A couple more to be packed today - then after it again tomorrow.

G - picked them myself. Ann went into town to meet with the dog agility folks to discuss business. Good for her is all I have to say - but, she will make an awesome cobbler with these.
