    Default Cormorant at Smithville

Another cormorant loss at Smithville. Altho this appears to be another accident, because of the proximity to the last one, authorities may look into the possibility of "fowl" play......

I'm sure the DNR is keeping a close watch on their population. They are no less an invasive species than the Zebra Mussels. We used to see flocks of hundreds and hundreds in Northern Michigan. They will decimate an inland lakes fishery when their flock grows. They even had a large effect on the Northern Lake Huron fishery. The state and US FWS oiled eggs for a long time and actually had people that shot them on inland lakes legally. They are one nasty SOB. These are the Double Crested pigs. Ask about them in the Michigan forum, you'll get some harsh comments.
The fishing was so good I thought it was yesterday

Looks like a suicide to me. If its not, do they have any suspects yet? Since it is up in a tree, Joe Dog would be No. 1 on my list.

The fact that JoeDog spends alot of time up in the trees is a well known fact. Perhaps someone is trying to cover their tracks and implicate him?

This whole thing smells fishy to me.

I think Joe would have been a suspect if the neck were wrapped around a limb several times and the beak hooked under to secure it......
