Default Calibrating Lowrance Touch Screen makes a big difference

Finally got to use these touch screen units. At first I was not happy with the touch sensing. But, after I calibrated the screen to my touch, Ima happy hooker. Big difference for me. I got some screen shots. Not bad for a beginner.

Cane, what exactly do you mean when you say you calibrated the screen to your touch? I just got a 7 Touch and know nothing about it. It actually froze up (screen would not change at all) when I first started it up. I called Brian at BBG and he tried to walk me through a few reboot procedures that did not work. I finally read about a 9 point recalibration in the literature that came with it, and that did the trick. Now I just need to learn how to use it. I can't interpret anything on the screen-this is the first "modern" FF I've had, so I know I have a lot to learn. Any suggestions as to where I should look for videos or advise on this? This is actually the second unit I've received-the first would not even turn on. Turns out it was a poor connection between the power cable and the back of the unit. I had checked for power, and it showed 12.5 volts. I plugged the new unit into the old power cable, and it didn't work, either. When I used the new power cable it did work...still showed 12.5 volts just like the old cable. I'm nervous that there may be a lot of bugs in these. $1,000 plus is a lot of money to me, and if I have more trouble or can't figure out how this all works, I'll be kicking myself for even buying it.

Actually, if the touch isn't calibrated correctly, it could and does lock up.

    So do this:

    Turn unit off.

Hold the flag button (and Keep holding) as you turn power on the unit.

The unit will got to a calibrate screen.

On this page you will see a cross hair. At this time, release the flag button.

Touch the cross hair as it moves about the screen. There are 9 points in the cross hair calibrate routine.

When you are finished, the unit will automatically revert to normal operation.

Try this. Prob fix your lockup problem.

    PS

Don't rush the process. Let it do it's thang. Takes a short time.

There are very few bugs on the Touch series. The 12 had a few when it first came out but they were very minor.

I would not consider the touch screen calibration a bug. It is in the book to do this calibration. Maintenance.

Mine worked out of the box. I ain't done any real tweaking yet. Might not either. It is fine the way it came out of the box. Hello, I can't see good enough to tell much anyhow.

Do you need help with settings in your unit for good performance...??

Or do you need help in understanding how the SI image actually corresponds to what is under the water...??

Here's a short video that I compiled ...that shows how the 3 dimensional underwater enviroment is processed into the 2 dimensional SI image that you see on the display...

The water column is exaggerated in the video to aid in visualization...

(Sorry for being a little off the OP Tom) ...
