I have had the sour grape catch fish when others wouldn't....but overall poorly made baits that don't always run true even out of the box.....unlike the quality of the bandits that always run true right out of the box and even after hundreds of fish....

You can get cranks to run true by bending the lip ring towards the side the bait is running/angling towards. For instance, if the crank is pulling to its left ... hold the crank up facing you & bend the lip ring over to "your" right (its left) and test it. Repeat as necessary to get the crank to run straight & true.

I've actually bent the lip ring on purpose, to make a crank run to one side or the other. I used those cranks to cast parallel to the bank or cover, and have them run towards, or into, or under the cover/structure ... when there was no other way for me to get the bait to do that, when they ran straight.

My biggest "negative" towards Rebel baits has always been the small treble hooks they come with. I've used Rebel baits for over 40yrs, mostly for Bass, and I've had better & more successful hookups when I changed the trebles to the next largest size ... and especially the rear hooks. I've only had a few Rebel cranks that wouldn't run true out of the box, and they were remedied by bending the lip ring slightly towards the side which the bait was running.

I fished WeeRs for years for bass. Hated having to constantly tune them. I agree about the small hooks but they also had a tendency for the hooks to tangle up together. It wouldn't be as big a deal when trolling but repeated casting resulted in lost fish when the hooks tangled together. I actually change the hooks on most of my trolling cranks to larger red color hooks. It increases the chance of the hooks tangling but also raises the % of hook ups.

BTW, I don't feel as bad tuning a $1.99 bait as I would tuning a $7-8 or higher bait. Those things should have the signature of the person who personally tank-tested each bait.

Good Points pappy.....but no one wants to tweak a bait out if the box...baits should run true out of the box...neat idea about making the bait move toward cover...never thought of that one...as for the hooks I always replace even the bandits with different hooks....overall they are just a poorly made bait......bandits are much better,,, I have a bag of these rebels and I couldn't even sell them for 2 for a dollar at the barren swap meet....don't waste your money

That's strange ... There's a thread on the main forum about these cranks, and most everyone is saying that theirs run true right out of the box !!

If you really wanted to get rid of those cranks, I'd say you could probably sell them on the Personal Classifieds forum. Say ... $1.75/ea and buyer pays shipping ... then you could buy some more Bandits with that money
