^^ I agree but I'd make it single pole from January 1st till May 1st, then 4 poles per person. Defiantly go back to 12".

Wanting to know a little basic info on Sardis. Like launch areas, what part of lake for casting jigs. Would really appreciate any advice in general about the lake. Thanks Petercreek.

Put in at engineers pt, troll 100 yards to the north west, and cast toward the rocks.

There's a big difference. It's mostly males being caught by the waders in the shallows and mostly females being caught by the trollers out deeper. I've always believed that preserving the males is more important than preserving the females if you want a good spawn. If the males are eliminated there's no protection for the eggs and the fry that hatch. A single large female crappie can lay about 30,000 eggs, I believe.

Catchemdeep, u are way off path. How long u think it takes those eggs to hatch? Do u think all the females in the lake run in and spawn at the same time leaving the males with more work than they can handle? The answer is no. And there are actually alot more male fish than female fish. It only takes 2 to 3 days for these eggs to hatch and not all the females will be dropping at the same time. There will always be male fish to protect these eggs. It's the female fish that u should be worried about.

Beginning spawn more males shallow during spawn more females shallow tail end more males. Like I said earlier with over 200 miles of shoreline they got nothing to worry about.

    Default All Females

I fished the same area Sunday and yesterday. I limited out both days. Yesterday was a little tougher but all the fish that I cleaned were females. They were in all different stages of spawning. Some looked like they had spawned and some looked like they had a tennis ball in their stomach. I think a BIG problem is people DOUBLE DIPPIN.

Not what the biologists say. It's a moot point though. They are prolific spawners and neither the nasty ole trollers or greedy spawners are going to hurt them.

Don't really think Sardis can be hurt.Crappie should be thinned down or over population will happen. But I don't think people should post that you can come to Sardis and catch limit with no problem. The ramps are crowded enough.
