Spoke to Lakeside bait today. His report was the fish are shallow. The lake is high and due to some issue they have not been draining it out yet. 3-6' the fish are in the brush on the shore. Just thought I'd check in and see if anyone else might have fished this week and had some more advice. Going to stop at his store Friday and grab some minnows for my girl. Just not sure if I would need to drive clear up the river or just fish the main lake in all the brush. I know whites, walleye all head up river for the spawn but I never thought crappie did the same thing. Grew up on Hamilton and never went up the mizzarn (sp) or way up to Blakley chasing the crappie spawn. Is that what I need to do for this lake?

If the fish are shallow and in a bunch of new brush due to high water (unusual for this lake), then I may just go down there myself!!! Fishing buck brush on the sides of coves is what I remember most. When they lowered the lake, the buckbrush all died!!! If it's high, thus flooding new buckbrush, then hit every stickup you can find in every cove you can find.

You won't have to go up the lake to do that. Go under the US70 bridge, past Jim Wylie campground on your right, and from there go either left or right, or BOTH....and find coves and buckbrush and feed 'em minners. You'll have to experiment to find the right depth.

    Good luck.

Well if anyone else made the trip and will see this, have you got any advice for today? I went up bear creek. I know I found fish in 20' in some of the pockets and other that a couple short strikes I've got nothing. WT is 60 give or take. Assuming my lowrance is accurate. Can't find anything up shallow. Not even the minnows are producing for me. Not even sure what to try right now. Hoping someone else might be on the water with a smart phone and watching this post and could tell me what to do. Worth a try.

Here's a pic of my cousin Randy with a big black and a big white. He and I caught 19 big crappie and a bass yesterday at Greeson. YES, IN THE RAIN. Even with the poncho, I was drenched. We were the only boat on our end of the lake up in Self Creek. When they hit, hang on! We hung a few more and let them get off. Had a day to remember.

With weather forecast this week it should be a great weekend everywhere. Water temps lower but with 70's in the forecast it will change fast! Water temps should hit the magic range of 62 to 65 !

Back at Greeson today. 8 crappie, 3 bass, 2 goggle eyes. Windy windy windy! The crappie we caught were in shallow water caught on Bobby Garland Cajun crickets about 18 inches under a cork. Water temp 67 degrees. Not a great day, but still better than staying home. GTT

Thanks for the Greeson report. I have been thinking about going over there, but the weather & wind has changed my mind so far. It's over a 100 mile trip for me one way for me. Them are some pretty fish y'all caught.

You are welcome. My cousin went this morning and caught 5. Only one was in the shallow buck brush. The others came from 11 feet of water over cane condos. I think they're done!

A friend went to Millwood yesterday and he and 4 friends (2 boats) brought back 79. Still in shallow water over there. I also heard from another friend from Mt. Ida that they were going at Ouachita.

Took my son gobbler hunting this morning.......no luck there either! Back to work tomorrow. Watch the weather tonight, Arkansas. GTT
