The corps draws Smithville down to 2' low in winter, and you should thank them. This is done in cooperation with MDC to specifically aid the spawn. They are trying now to get back to that 2' low mark before the spawn starts. Doing this gives them a 4'-6' cushion before they would have to release water in the event of a big rain. A drawdown in the middle of the spawn has pretty serious effects on the survival of fry. I don't know all the data, that would have to come from one of our biologists, but I do know they are doing this to help us in the long run.
