Those little footballs also serve another purpose when you're not using a float. Slide them up the line about 3 foot and use it as a dept indicator. I do the same with my spinning setup. I raise my pole and take in line until I get the little football above the water then I know how deep my jigs is.

You can also use them as sinker stops....I place them on the line below a 1/8 or 1/4 oz. egg sinker when fishing on the bottom for shell crackers. Put a bead between the stop and the sinker. Keeps the egg sinker above your hook and bait.

I use a small 2" cigar style cork with a hair jig 8" to 18" fishing the bank depending on where I'm fishing the water depth determines that. If I am fishing cypress trees with low limbs I use a slip cork with the big steel rings in them the line slides better through them but they are hard to find they come in a pack with the bead similar to crappie wizards. I put a split shot 8" above a 1/32 hair jig to keep the cork from getting stuck on the head of the jig and for more weight to get the jig down again water depth determines where I put the stopper above the bead. This allows me to cast under limbs from far away when the water is shallow or to slide cork and jig through limbs in deep water and let it slide down to the fish. You want the jig to always be above the fish for example in 3 FOW the fish may be near the bottom so I would set my cork 18" to 24" above the jig to allow the fish to come up and hit the jig. I will work an area a few times if I pick up fish but I like to let it rest a while to allow fish to move back in after you catch a few and they stop biting. Hope this helps you out
