We had one in our old house years ago. Paul pulled it out from under the refrigerator (bare handed) by its tail, threw it in a wicker wastebasket with a throw rug over it, took it outside chopped it dead with an ax. It was a copperhead about 3 feet long. He didn't go into work that afternoon. Best we can figure, it came up from the crawl space under the house through the hole for the 220 outlet for the stove. We sealed that up and I was afraid to get out of bed in the mornings for a month! I still get the heebie jeebies when I think about it.
