    I wasn't thinking about that. Do you think that those old fence slats will still have a bunch of chemicals in them. If so, I guess I will just burn them.

    If they are cedar or redwood, would probably be fine. If they are CCA treated pine, I wouldn't use them... probably would still prevent algae from growing on them. Other treatments are likely leached out pretty much by now... but better safe than sorry!!

    It didn't look or smell like cedar or look like redwood. So I guess I won't use it to be safe. I guess that pallet wood isn't treated. That seems to be what some folks use.

    If It was untreated pine in the weather in be rodded up by now

    I've heard some say pallets treated but if I set them on the ground too long the Termites make a meal of them ? Some imported pallets maybe but local mades it is doubtfull. There is a pallet mill down the road and he saws his own lumber to build. I get his scraps for stakes. I try to avoid any that are not hardwood .
