If your having trouble,,put the line on the reel,,go to the lake,,,let it all out and drag slowly getting it straight and all the kinks out including line twists,,and slowly reel in after dragging a few minutes, and your good to go. Try that.

Looking at the spool you want the line to unwrap in a counter-clockwise rotation. Another way to tell is to lay the spool flat on the floor with the label up. Put the line through the guides and tie it to spool. Reel about 15 rotations and drop the rod tip towards the spool on the floor. If the line starts to kink/coil up flip it over to the label down and do another 15-20 rotations and drop tip down again to see if it quits coiling. Which it should but some line has enough memory that it is tough to keep it from coiling up.

I have tried about everything also best for me is have significant other hold pencil with a slight tention on it as i reel line on spool. If I open bail and line coils out cut about 20 ft. off and go fishn. Another thing I have good luck with is once reel is full spray it with reel majic cast a few times with a heavy lure and then retie and go fish.
