I seen a guy on TV the other day looked like he had two of the I pilot link for fishing in the wind he said. One on front of boat and the other on the back with looked like a jack plate. Guess thatd keep you square all the time?

If you have 2 units they can be linked together to share WayPoints. You are driving around using Side or Down imaging, you find a stump bed, you mark a way point then when you want to fish it you use front unit to go to the way point and with sharing that front antenna close to front transducer will get you pretty close. Where if you rely just on rear ducer and antenna you could be off by the length of the boat x2 or 3. If you have 2 units like this you can share way points but not Maps from a card. You would have to have separate cards for each unit. If your going to run the Link setup I would think the front unit would be where you would want it hooked up if your fishing from the front. GWdaug could better answer this since he has one and I don't.

So if I had just one unit since that's all I'm gonna get. Sounds like the 998c is gonna be it but can I mount the GPS puck on the front of boat and transducer on the back of boat?? Plus the I pilot link trolling motor has a universal sonar will that work the 2d on fish finder ?

If you are doing a lot of side pulling then that unit would work. Then later if you really get into spider rigging you could add GPS puck if you felt it necessary.

You could but it kinda defeats the purpose. You want the puck mounted as close to the transducer as possible so when YO mark something with transduce the Waypoint you mark will be right there. Then when you go back to that Waypoint you should be really close and be able to pick it up with ducer. There again the farther they are separated the harder it's going to be to get back on your spot. This is just my 2 cents, I would go with 998, mount ducer on transom and puck as close as I could to it. Buy the Y cable they sell and adpter for trolling motor. Then you could run 2D off motor and SI/DI off rear. Latter buy another puck and adapter cable, mount it on bow of boat. The all you would have to do is switch back and forth from rear to front antenna depending where you were sitting. That way if you see something and mark it you could go to that point and find it with 2D. I hope I am making enough sense that it's kind of understandable.

Yep makes perfect sense and that's how I can afford to do it also. Running the I pilot I'd have to use front GPS puck and trolling motor transducer right? Will that universal sonar on TM run I pilot link on depth contour lines??

Never mind I guess the I pilot depth contour runs off GPS and lake maps correct? But would have to be front puck to be accurate spider rugging

My ipilot is linked to the front sonar, due to marking waypoints while using the trolling motor. I am going to link all together with an Ethernet switch when they come out late this month just to share waypoints. No map sharing either way. I am still learning the system and if it will ever warm up for a while, I am going to work hard getting proficient using the system, too expensive and useful not to try to get the maximum benefit from it.
