Default MK and MG factory installed transducers

I am interested in buying a trolling motor and new electronics. Looking at I-Pilot or Xi5. Questions are, does the pre-installed transducers work with DI? Would DI from the back be better? Have not decided brand of nor model of electronics but do want a combo SI, DI and chart. I realize the bigger the better on electronics. I saw the thread on install of HB sonars on MK but nothing similar for Xi5. Open to suggestions and advice.

First question, no they will not work with DI. You can install your transducer on MK motors no problem. The new MG is so new really haven't seen much of anything on it. Have seen a couple of threads on here about how it performs but nothing on Transducers or mounting. Might go to BassBoat central or Walleye central and look around to see if there is any info there. I have my SI/DI mounted on transom and run a straight 2d unit hooked to the transducer on my Terrova.

I would not buy anything other than Minnkota. This is not a Ford/Chevy debate, Minnkota sets the par for trolling motors. Especially, electric steer and GPS.

Early word is that the new MG Xi5 puts everything else to shame.

I've had good luck out of MG trolling motors over the years. Currently my boat has a Fortrex on it and it's not a bit quieter than the 10 year old MG that was on the boat I sold a couple years ago.

I have owned 2 new Terrovas with I-Pilot. Spot lock is my reason for doing so as I don't Spider Rig or Troll.. Neither of my MKs hold you on the spot. After seeing the demonstration that Shellback & genec did with their MK-IP, I'm in total agreement with their findings. I wish I could find the post but haven't so far. They moved the boat 18' before it started correcting. That is just about what mine does. I called MK and ask if the IP-Link would do a better job and the tech said no.

I am anxiously awaiting more field test results on the MG Xi5. I would gladly pay the price just for the spot lock feature that works. I am hearing good things about the MG...

Haven't done any research but one of the threads on the new MG was talking about them having 2 GPS receivers. If that is true it stands to reason they could be a little more accurate. If that is true and sales take off it won't be long before MK has the same or a similar set up.

That is the Rhodan and it is pricey and minus cruise control. Be careful investing $1500 in a new product. Minnkota created this market and has lead it for many years. If it ain't broke don't fix it!
