Default 998 Transducer Versus Speedo Pickup

I'm finishing up my boat today and have a question. I would like to move my pickup and transducer to the same side of the boat. I'd hate for my wife/kids to break one or the other off. I'm worried about the side imaging picking up the pickup. Any advice on how to accomplish it? Or am I worrying about something that doesn't exist?

Just get rid of the speed pick up and use the gps on the 998 for speed. A lot more accurate.

I'm curious as to your reasoning of using the pickup...??

I enjoy learning...even if it doesn't pertain to my applications...

Well mostly my OCD is not going to allow a gauge that doesn't work, even an inaccurate one. Since I will more than likely have problems have no problems I'm just going to run them on differnt sides of the boat.

I guess we should try to help with your OP...

There's no reason why you cannot mount the xducer and the pickup on the same side of the transom...

Just remember the SI beams reach all the way to the surface so the pickup must be mounted a little higher than "level with the xducer"...

I'm with Wilbur on this one

My speedo says my boat will max out at 54mph ... while my GPS on my Elite 5DSI will register right at 50mph top speed. I'll take the "word" of the GPS over the speedo, any day ... even when it means the boat ain't going as fast as the speedo says !!
