I dont mean anything negative so don't take it that way but was this a spider rigging tourney? Or did some of the folks fish rod n reel? I am clueless so forgive me for a silly question.

I'll add the pictures I took. That was a different kind of fishing that I was not prepared for. As a fisherman, you can always learn something new, but you must be prepared for anything. Congrats to the winners.

Nice fish . Tough conditions!
Me and my buddy won the tourney and never spider rigged nor tight lined fish! The conditions were just very tough and the bite was very strange! Maumelle has always been more of a cast and retrieve lake for crappie! I look forward to fishin lake Conway and hoping to learn the techniques I need to to fish that lake!

Maumelle was a great challenge to try and unlock the secret. Me and Greg fished three days in arow with a skunk looming over us. With spider rigging, longline, and vertical jigging producing nothing...this lake left us scratching our heads. We decided to turn to the locals and study how they were fishing. We happened on a spot with a few boats and saw them catching crappie in 25-35 feet of water over brush so we sat and watched them and GPS'ed close to where they were fishing. One of the locals who helped us was BassMaster/Scott Rook. The tips Rook and another local named Bryan were no doubt helpful in us doing well in this Tourney. We threw 1/8th Oz led heads with Lake Fork style baits, on 4lb test making a long cast over brush, letting it sink to the bottom and then start a slow steady retrieve. It was snaggy and you will do allot of retieing. We fished side by side with another local team who won...but we had them worried as they dominated the morning bite and we dominated the evening bite and made a late charge towards the end of the tourney. We also lost two or three fish that would have won it for us. We sat in the same area all day, knowing the fish were there and would bite in spurts. We caught fish on several colors, Lighter colors in the morning and darker colors through the middle of the day. Myself and Greg's ability to be versatile in our fishing was also key in this tourney. Yes Maumelle was a tuff... but a fun tourney....and we owe a big thanks to the Locals who took the time to help us figure it out, the Loons that swim there, and make sure you pet that lucky Hound Dog at the ramp before you leave for luck. Tight Lines.
