I have been fishing lake maumelle my whole life! It's just a strange lake! The crappie are easy to locate in channels in the winter and on the grass in the spring during the spawn( as with most places) I believe the reason they like casting and retrieving above all else is because of the amount of structure they group around! Another big factor is bait
Color and jig head color! I was using a yellow head in the tourney Saturday mornin and by the time noon rolled around they would only hit a white head or non painted! If anyone ever wants to hit up the lake I would be more than happy to take em!!
Fosh LIKED above post
For people speakin on water clarity- Maumelle has some of both colored and clear depending on which end of the lake youre fishin and how windy its been.
Fishin has gotten better out there since the stripers died out (circa 2004) but i don't believe the Lyon hatchery raises the same volume of fish they used to or the same kind (threadfin shad was what the maumelle bass club folks always said) but i may be offbase there. Anyways, please be careful out there i sunk one boat and have come close a couple other times. 14 mph outta the ese makes for tough time crossin the lake to say the least.![]()
I tried spider rigging there (Maumelle) all day last Thursday and the only thing I caught was a single bluegill. Could be my technique though, never spider rigged before. Got to keep on trying. Maybe get a spider rig mentor some day to show me the ropes.
I just looked the weights. How many fish are weighed each day in tourney?
